Rich and Leslie enjoy movies, innovative food and exotic cuisine and people. Over the years, their "entertaining hobby" has taken on a life of its own , with Rich and Leslie creating themed parties that closely resemble a Hollywood production. They call their approach "lights, camera, party", taking their media and theatrical experience and applying it to affordable and no hassle party hosting and themed tours. What was a hobby has grown to national television appearances on "The Rachael Ray Show", charity events and private functions.

Here you will find a sampling of movie and Broadway parties we have created for our movie clubs and special event groups. We will be adding more tips, photos and recipes over the next few months. For the privacy of our guests and the originality and creativity of their party ideas, please request to use content within with permission of themepartypeople.com

Citizen Kane Hollywood Premiere PDF Print E-mail

Set:  We have hosted Hollywood premiere parties for different eras and for "Citizen Kane" the setting was a 1941 Hollywood premiere, complete with red carpet, cheering fans and the flashbulbs of hundreds of photographers outside the private showing of what is considered the greatest American film.

So how do we accomplish that? The red carpet material can be purchased from a Party supplies store as red runners, not too expensive and can be used over and over. I mounted disco style strobe lights to a PVC pipe and plugged them into a motion sensor set to "Test". The sensor was a simple outdoor light unit purchased at a hardware store. The effect was very effective, for as guest walked up the red carpet, their movement would trigger the various strobe lights, truly resembling the flash of many cameras. It was easy to create a CD with crowd cheers, applause and general crowd noise to add to the effect that the guests were the  "stars" of the evening!

Nature Strikes Back! The Birds & Snakes on the Plane Party PDF Print E-mail

Get these %^^$ snakes out of our party!

Set: We combined two great (?) scary movies with the classic Hitchcock "The Birds" with 2007's marketing hit, "Snakes on the Plane" with Samuel L. Jackson. A warm Florida evening for a double feature under the stars was the set of the day. Invitations were Boarding Passes so that we could assign outside seating based on your ZONE!

Costumes:  We had a 757 load of stewardesses and pilots along with the much maligned bird victims!

Phantom of the Opera Party PDF Print E-mail

We enjoy watching "Phantom of the Opera" around Halloween with our friends, can you think of a better movie? Eerie, scary, romantic and full of masks! We find everyone gets in the act for this movie party, even the most timid.

Set: Dress the house for the Phantom's Lair- there are great wallpapers in Halloween shops that are of brick, castle stones, cemeteries. Paper your porch or recreation room with them to set the stage. Fog machines are a good buy now, some under $20 and you can use them for a lot of different themes throughout the year. (Make sure you run them outside so not to set off your fire detectors!). Get some flame flicker bulbs from the hardware store and replace your lamps with those. It looks like a dungeon! Another good idea is to buy colored gels from your local theatrical supply house and put them around white spot lights. The gels, purples and blues,  give your set a great foreboding look and they last forever, unlike colored flood lights.
